Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber
Oxygen under pressure, it’s that simple, with too many benefits to list.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy can help with a whole host of ailments from hangovers, to low energy, brain fog, injuries and more.
It is the combination of increased oxygen and atmospheric pressure in a Hyperbaric chamber.
Together the increase in Oxygen and Atmospheric pressure leads to increased oxygen in circulation by pushing oxygen into the plasma.
The increased pressure also helps the body to release Stem Cells, which encourages healing.
What Are the Benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment?
The tissues in the body need oxygen to function, so adding more oxygen can help damaged tissues to heal faster. Breathing oxygen at high pressure puts more oxygen in circulation, which is more beneficial by enhancing tissue function and fighting infection.
Collagen and Wound Healing
Oxygen is used in the healing process, especially for wounds. HBOT can increase the oxygen in the area, assisting in the healing process, while also decreasing inflammation, increasing collagen production and stem cell release and stimulating the growth of new blood vessels. This is for all wounds, including head injuries and internally, not just cuts or bruises.
Reduce Inflammation
HBOT can help reduce inflammation throughout the body, which is beneficial for people in pain or with conditions such as arthritis, Crohn's disease, and fibromyalgia.
Relieves Jet Lag
Because planes are in the air well above sea level, there is lower atmospheric pressure which leads to less oxygen in the blood stream, causing headaches, fatigue, insomnia and more. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is popular post flight for many frequent flyers to help them feel like themselves quicker.
Reduce risk of infection
HBOT can help fight off bacteria and viruses by increasing the oxygen levels in the body. This can reduce the risk of infection and promote overall wellness.
Grow new blood vessels
HBOT can help improve circulation by promoting the growth of new blood vessels. This can help bring more oxygen and nutrients to the body's tissues, which can promote healing and tissue repair.
Improve cognitive function
By increasing oxygen levels in the brain, HBOT can help improve cognitive function, including memory, concentration, and overall brain health.
Reduce PTSD
HBOT can help reduce the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental health conditions by reducing inflammation and promoting relaxation. This can help alleviate symptoms such as anxiety and depression.
How Does Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) Work?
A session in a Hyperbaric chamber is often called a ‘Dive’ because it simulates diving by using air pressure instead of water. With Diving you start at sea level 1 ATA (ATmosphere Absolute) and the deeper you go, the more pressure is created from the water above because it is heavy.
To understand the pressure more easily, for every 1m underwater, that is an additional 0.1 ATA. So 3m is 1.3 ATA, 5m is 1.5 ATA, and 10m is 2.0 ATA.
The More pressure, the more oxygen can be pushed into your circulation, and the more stem cells are released, helping heal all sorts of ailments.
At Feel Good Nation, we have a Hard-Shell chamber capable of 2.0 ATA which is built for one person, though can accommodate a young child with an adult. The chamber consists of a long, aluminium tube that looks like a giant capsule with a Polycarbonate window. In the future we will also get a Multiplace chamber which can seat up to 4 people at the same time.
The session usually goes like this
- First we make sure you feel comfortable and safe, while we explain everything you need to know.
- Next you lie down in the chamber and close the door.
- Once you’re comfortable, the chamber is slowly pressurised to the desired pressure.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy shouldn’t be painful or unpleasant, it should be quite peaceful and relaxing.
Similar to flying, at the beginning and end of your session your ears will pop (equalise) while the chamber is getting to pressure and back. Once it is at pressure it will ‘coast’ and your ears should stop popping.
During the session, at lower pressures (1.5 ATA and below) you are able to wear almost anything, and also bring in electronic devices like phones.
If you are going to pressures deeper than 1.5 ATA then you must wear all cotton or linen, and have no jewellery, lotions, or electronic devices with you in the chamber for safety reasons.
The 3 ways we tell people to pop/equalise their ears is by, 1. Swallowing, 2. Yawning, and 3. Blocking the nose and blowing hard. If this doesn’t work there is also a button that can be pressed so that the machine stops pressurising.
Pricing
$150-250/session
There are many variables with HBOT, and our chamber is capable of more than the average chamber, you could say it is built different.
We will have 2 different classes of treatments, mHBOT (Mild HBOT) up to 1.4 ATA (which is more than most places) and also HBOT which is beyond 1.4 ATA.
Come see it in person to understand its capabilities better.
Whether our session is 60 or 90 minutes we will charge it out the same.
We will aim to give 90 min treatments in most instances so that you get the most form our system.
If you wish to use Deeper Pressures we will also need written permission from a practitioner for a treatment protocol.
We are happy to work with your practitioner to help find the best protocol for you.
FAQ About Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)
We have a hard-shell monoplace chamber capable of 2.0 ATA which accommodates a single patient lying down.
We have different times available, most people opt for a 60 min treatment, though we also do 90 min. We give an extra 5 minutes to accommodate for the pressurizing time and roughly 5 minutes to depressurize (this is dependant on how deep your dive is).
For first timers we only put you in for 45 minutes unless you are experienced with HBOT
If you are doing pressures from 1.0-1.5 ATA then you are welcome to wear regular clothes and can bring devices like a phone or laptop into the chamber with you. If we are doing deeper pressures then you must wear all cotton, have no lotions, jewellery, devices or anything else that you weren’t born with inside the chamber with you for safety reasons.
Shower before your session and don’t wear perfumes and deodorants. Keep your body as clean and natural as possible and remove all jewellery.
When your session is complete, you may feel lightheaded. Side effects can include claustrophobia (rarely), headaches and fatigue. It’s best to arrange to have someone drive you home after hyperbaric oxygen therapy if it is your first time and you are not sure how it will affect you.
Depending on what you are trying to treat this can vary from one off for helping with a hangover, to 5x/week for helping with a chronic condition. It is best to contact us directly if you have something in particular you want to treat.

Important Things to Note
Keep your body healthy before your hyperbaric oxygen treatment. Avoid coffee for a few hours before treatment (as it constricts blood vessels), and ideally alcohol and carbonated beverages for at least four weeks before your appointment.
If you are a smoker, it’s best to try and stop smoking. Tobacco can block the body’s natural ability to transfer oxygen.
Don’t arrive sick to your treatment session as having a cold, fever, or flu can compromise the effects of your treatment, and if you have a blocked sinus/ears the treatment can be painful.
Always consult with your healthcare practitioner before starting anything new, particularly in the event that you suffer from a chronic illness or are taking any medication.
