What is an Infrared Sauna?
Our infrared saunas in Sydney make use of infrared light waves. Infrared light is the wavelength of energy that projects and meets the skin; we feel it as heat. Infrared heat is projected from natural sources all around us in our daily lives, like fire, hot sand warmed by the sun on the beach, and even other humans. Infrared is quite normal and can be found everywhere – the largest natural source is, of course, the sun itself.
Any light that we see with the naked eye has a number of different wavelengths. Although infrared light cannot be seen, it also has a range of wavelengths. These waves are beneficial to the human body because they increase its thermal energy.
Our full-spectrum infrared sauna Sydney services utilise three different waves. Each of these has different characteristics and ranges of frequency, including:
- Near-infrared waves (NIR),
- Mid-infrared waves (MIR), and
- Far-infrared waves (FIR).
An infrared sauna is a small enclosure made from wood and glass, and the heaters are set up on the inside. This type of sauna provides heat shock proteins in a controlled environment, allowing the space to be more comfortable and controlled while you’re enjoying your sweat.
Our Infrared sauna Sydney studio mimics the procedure of how the sun’s rays penetrate into the skin, effectively activating the body’s sweat glands. This catalyses unwanted toxins and substances in the body to be dissolved on a cellular level and released as sweat. This process revitalises your body’s cells and metabolism without exposing them to the harmful side effects that can occur from prolonged exposure to the sun.
Who Are Our Infrared Saunas in Sydney For?
No matter how big or small, or how young or old, our Sydney infrared saunas can be beneficial to pretty much anyone. This mode of therapy has been studied and researched thoroughly and even declared safe for babies. In fact, specialists in hospitals use radiant heat as a method to keep newborns warm.
Medical professionals — such as GPs, physical therapists, and chiropractors — have been using infrared therapy on patients all over the world for decades. It has been shown to effectively relieve pain, increase flexibility, and treat various skin conditions.
In particular, senior citizens rely on the pain relief benefits and muscle and joint recovery that results from infrared sauna sessions. Through radiant heat, regular infrared sauna therapy in Sydney can minimise the symptoms of arthritis, bursitis, strains and sprains, and muscle spasms due to reducing inflammation in the body.
Our Sydney infrared saunas raise the core temperature in the body, which increases circulation. This allows blood to flow better and more optimally. Improved circulation promotes muscle relaxation and repair and also improves mobility.
When you have good blood circulation, waste products such as lactic acid are removed from the body quicker. Blood filled with oxygen is taken to the muscles faster, and they can use the fresh blood vessels to recover faster.
What’s the Difference Between a Traditional and an Infrared Sauna?
While a traditional sauna uses heat and steam to increase the air’s temperature and warm up your body, an infrared one heats the body directly using infrared lamps so the surrounding air doesn’t become unbearably hot and unpleasant.
People initially became interested in traditional saunas because of the benefits of sweating. An infrared sauna session at our Sydney studio also leads to excessive sweating, but the environment is held at a much lower temperature than a standard sauna room.
Many people can’t tolerate the intense heat of a steam sauna, so they much prefer getting the same results and benefits from an infrared alternative. What’s more, because they aren’t unbearably hot, it’s easier to stay in for longer, meaning you can experience prolonged benefits.
